about us

We believe that everyone should have access to food that is good for people and the planet.

Our community-based cooking programmes are co-designed with our participants and run in partnership with local support services. These collaborative workshops celebrate food, community and resilience. We aim to help identify and dismantle the key barriers facing our local communities in accessing nourishing food grown with a commitment to sustainability, soil health and biodiversity.

Food is a lovely way to connect and give a sense of common ground. It was a really lovely experience I’ve taken a lot from the cooking and connecting.

our mission

Ein Cegin is a community kitchen working to make nourishing, sustainable food accessible to everyone. Through inclusive cooking workshops co-designed with our community, we bring people together to cook, eat, and connect—nurturing wellbeing, community resilience, and a fair local food system.

how we work

Ein Cegin sessions are community led and evolved directly from community consultation. We work in partnership with support services to run free cookery workshops for families, including in some of the most deprived areas in our community. Our sessions are designed to improve participants’ wellbeing, emotional and physical health and to help alleviate social isolation by bringing local people of all ages together to cook and eat - building social connections and strengthening community networks.

why?

We feel it is important to equip people with important cooking skills that they may not have had access to before and help build the confidence to cook delicious and nutritious meals. There is increasing evidence that ultra-processed food and a food system that disconnects people from where and how their food is produced is harming people’s physical and mental wellbeing. We provide ideas for alternatives to the processed foods that are so heavily promoted in supermarkets, enabling people to make meals that are quick and affordable to prepare and nourish the whole family. As well as helping participants to develop important cookery skills, sessions are designed to be fun and to connect people with their local community and environment. Our workshops are a learning exchange, rather than a formal ‘cooking lesson’.
